Sivananda Math

Śivānanda Math is an institution founded by Swāmī Satyānanda Saraswati, aiming to help poor people of a rural and underdeveloped area of northern India, in the state of Jharkhand.

The activities of Śivānanda Math consist not only in supplying material aid or services (food, clothes, medical assistance, schools for children…), but also in teaching techniques to generate means of subsistence (like sewing machine courses or field cultivation techniques) in order to help people in building a community able to provide for their sustenance, rather then creating a culture of dependence.

The selfless service offered by Śivānanda Math get inspiration by the teachings of Swāmī Śivānanda Saraswati, his founder’s guru: “Learn to give, give in plenty, give with love, give without any expectation, one does not lose anything by giving, on the other hand you get back a thousand fold”
